Joongbae Jee was a principal conductor at the Theater Ulm from the season 2015-16 to 2017-18 and from 2012-13 to 2014-15 he was also a principal conductor and a deputy general music director at the Theater Trier in Germany. He taught Orchestral Conducting as a main subject at the Mannheim University of music in Germany.
He was discovered by German Conducting Forum - Deutsche Dirigentenforum in April 2010 and has since benefited from their conducting program and support. Since 2015 he was a member of conductor's group "Maestro von Morgen" of German Music Council (Deutsche Musikrat)
Praised as a dynamic, profound and extremely talented conductor, Joongbae Jee, was one of the revelations of the 2013 Jukka-Pekka Saraste Conducting Seminar with the WDR Sinfonieorchester in Köln and from 2014 he is assistant to maestro Jukka-Pekka Saraste.
In 2012, Jee was also announced as the winner of the 4th German Operetta Prize for young conductors. And Jee was a finalist at the 5th National Conducting Competition of Music Conservatories in Germany and semi-finalist at the “52. Councours de jeunes chefs d’orchestre Besançon” in France.

Also in Europe and Korea, he conducted numerous orchestras including the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, MDR Sinfonieorchester, Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, Ensemble Resonanz, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz, Baden-Badener Philharmonie, Kurpfälzische Kammerorchester, Süddeutsche Kammerorchester Pforzheim, Orchester der Musikalischen Komödie der Oper Leipzig, Sinfonieorchester des Theaters Venemuine Tartus (Estonia), The State Philharmonic Orchestra Plovdiv (Bulgaria), Korean Symphony Orchestra, Busan Philharmonic (Korea), die Bucheon Philharmonic (Korea), Wonju Philharmonic, Gwangju Symphony Orchestra (Korea) and Seoul Tutti Ensemble (for concert tour in Germany) Jee has participated in numerous master classes and conducting workshops and worked many established conductors and professors such as Jun Märkl, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Marc Albrecht, Eri Klas, Sian Edwards, Daniel Raiskin, Frank Ollu and Toyama Yujo.
With a special interest in contemporary music, Jee started out conducting contemporary music with Hae-Sun Kang (a soloist with Ensemble Intercontemporain) and the SNU New Music Ensemble during his studies in Seoul. Since 2004, Jee has regularly been invited as guest conductor of the TIMF Ensemble (Tongyeong International Music Festival). An invitation in 2010/11 for a tour of the TIMF Ensemble, lead him to places such as the Vatican, the United Nations in Geneva and to the Camp Libre Festival in France. In 2005, Jee was awarded a TIMF scholarship and conducted the “Ensemble Modern” (Frankfurt) as conducting assistant to Frank Ollu. More recently, Jee worked with the composers Johannes Maria Staud and Martin Matalon, and also with the conductor Frank Ollu at the “International Ensemble Modern Academy” (IEMA), conducting the IEMA Orchestra at New Music festivals such as „Transart 09“ (Bozen, Italy) and „Klangspuren 2009“ (Schwaz, Austria).
He studied conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Mannheim, Germany with Prof. Klaus Arp(Orchestral Conducting) and Prof. Georg Grün(Choral Conducting) and at the Seoul National University (Korea) with Prof. Hun-Jeong Lim and Prof. Deok-ki Kim. Jee also studied composition at the Seoul Arts High School (Korea), additionally attending the Korea National University of Arts as a pre- college student. He was born in 1982 in Seoul, Korea. He currently resides in Germany.
